Job Overview
The Transitional Director for Peninsula Baptist Association (PBA) is to provide strategic leadership during a
period of change. Reporting to the Leadership Team, the Transitional Director is to guide structural realignment,
operational refinement, and support of member congregations. The Transitional Director partners with clergy
and lay leaders to ensure continuity of programs, financial stability, and alignment with PBA.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day operations, including finance, communications, and member services.
- Facilitate collaborative dialogue among church leaders, staff, and board members to identify priorities and navigate change.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive transitional plan with clear milestones, resource allocation, and performance metrics.
- Conduct organizational assessments to uncover strengths, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and capacity-building workshops for pastors and lay leaders.
- Coordinate recruitment and onboarding of permanent leadership, ensuring a smooth handover process.
- Manage budgets, financial reporting, and fundraising initiatives to maintain fiscal health.
- Communicate regularly with stakeholders through written reports, presentations, and listening sessions.
- Benchmark the PBA situation against that of other Baptist Associations in Virginia.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s degree in Divinity, Theology, Organizational Leadership, or related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of senior leadership experience in church associations, denominational offices, or non-profit organizations.
- Proven track record of leading successful transitional or interim management projects.
- Strong understanding of ecclesial governance, canonical protocols, and pastoral care principles.
- Financial acumen with experience in budget oversight and fundraising.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.

Work Environment and Relationships
- The Transitional Director will collaborate closely with the Leadership Team, clergy, lay leadership, and administrative staff, working in hybrid office and remote settings.
- Expectations are for a work effort of 20 to 25 hours per week at a compensation of $3500 to $3800 per month for 6 months.
